Stricker, Van Pelt defend CVS Charity Classic title

Barrington, RI (SportsNetwork.com) - Steve Stricker and Bo Van Pelt teamed to fire an 11-under 60 on Tuesday to successfully defend their title at the CVS Caremark Charity Classic.
The duo finished the 36-hole tournament at Rhode Island Country Club at 20- under-par 122.
Peter Jacobsen and Jimmy Walker, who shared the lead with Stricker and Van Pelt after the opening round, carded a 10-under 61 on Tuesday to finish alone in second place at 19-under 123.
Suzann Pettersen and Jonas Blixt also shot 61 in the final round to end in a tie for third with Russell Henley and Harris English at 15-under. Henley and English combined to card an 8-under 63.
The first-round co-leaders traded birdies over the first two holes to remain tied before Van Pelt and Stricker stayed hot with their third straight gain to grab the outright lead.
After again trading birdies at the fourth, Van Pelt and Stricker pulled two strokes ahead of Jacobsen and Walker with another birdie at the sixth.
Jacobsen and Walker battled back with birdies at the eighth, ninth, 11th and 13th to meet Van Pelt and Stricker at 8-under on the day, but Van Pelt and Stricker answered with a birdie at the 14th to pull back ahead.
The teams would go on to trade birdies at the 15th and 17th before both parred the last to hand Van Pelt and Stricker the win.
