South Pointe duo shines in Under Armour All-American game

ORLANDO, Fla.-- Consecutive touchdown-saving plays by South Pointe's DeVonte Holloman and Stephon Gilmore propelled the White team past the Black team, 27-16, in the second annual Under Armour All-American high school football game Sunday night in Orlando, Fla.

Holloman and Gilmore will be roommates at South Carolina when they enter college early on Jan. 12. They were among the 80 players chosen for the game, which featured blue-chip seniors from across the nation.

The White team's 21-9 lead was under attack late in the third quarter when the Black team moved into the red zone. A pass was zipped toward the right corner and appeared to be headed for a touchdown. Holloman raced over, dove toward the sideline and, while parallel to the turf, swatted the ball out of bounds.

The Black team attacked the left side on the next play. The pass went into the end zone. Gilmore intercepted and stopped the drive with 4:55 left in the quarter. It proved to be one of the game's biggest defensive plays.

The White team set up at the 20 and was intercepted by Greg Reid of Valdosta, Ga.

The Black team didn't fail this time and scored, cutting the score to 21-16.
