The unofficial Class AAAA football playoff pairings that ran in several state newspapers Saturday morning were as advertised. They were close, but some adjustments had to be been made.
Representatives from the classification met at the South Carolina High School League office in Columbia to weed through the complicated points system used by Class AAAA. They had to deal with several tiebreakers before deciding which 32 team were in.
Of the 32 projected teams, 31 of those got berths. One of the recounts was whether Blythewood or Wando would get in. The decision went to the fourth tiebreaker, and Wando got the final berth.
The change of local interest came in the bottom half of the Division I bracket. Rock Hill was projected to have a home game against Boiling Springs on Thursday. After a three-way tie was broken, the Bearcats ended up the seventh seed and will host Fort Dorchester instead.
That change had a domino effect on the pairings and several games were switched, but Clover will still host Mauldin in the first round.
The Division II bracket stayed as posted. In the upper bracket, Northwestern hosts York and Lancaster travels to Greenwood.
In the lower bracket, South Pointe hosts West Florence.
