Fort Mill, a No. 1 seed at 19-3, will face Hillcrest on Monday in the next round. The match will put the Jackets on the road.

Fort Mill will be at full strength next week. John Green, one of its top wrestlers, has missed the last two matches after having surgery.

White Knoll coach Bo Smith said Fort Mill seems to have his teams' number.

"Fort Mill was the only AAAA team to beat us last year. They beat us early in the season and they knocked us out of the playoffs in the third round," Smith said.

The Yellow Jackets again knocked the Timberwolves from the playoffs.

"They are good from top to bottom," Smith said. "I think they have a shot at winning it all this year."

The most anticipated match of the night took place long after Fort Mill had enough points to win.

Top-ranked Shane Lee of White Knoll met No. 2 James Brotemarkle at 125. The two met earlier in the season at the Bearcat Invitational. Lee won a close match then.

Brotemarkle said, "It was something like 2-0, very close."

Lee seemed destined to win another 2-0 decision before Brotemarkle broke free for a one-point escape halfway through the third period. With 16 seconds left, the Fort Mill senior scored a takedown and added back points to record a 6-2 win.

"I knew how much time I had when I got out of his hold. I had to look for the takedown," Brotemarkle said.

"We needed to wrestle that match," Fort Mill coach Chris Brock said. "That will balance things out between those two. James should get the No. 1 seed in the Upper State tourney."

The draw for the match was at 140.

Fort Mill's Jonathan Miskelly got Fort Mill going with a major decision (18-3) over Blake Brown.

• ROCK HILL 57, GREENWOOD 11 -- At Greenwood, last season, Greenwood's wrestling team won Region 1-AAAA but lost in the first round of the Class AAAA dual tournament.

Although the Eagles won another region title and made it one round deeper in this season's tournament, they were still unable to secure a tournament win.

After advancing to the second round with a bye, Greenwood was defeated by Rock Hill, second-place in Region 3-AAAA. The Bearcats won 11 of 14 individual matches and will face Lexington in the Upper State semifinals Monday.

"We knew going in Rock Hill was a good team," Eagles coach Greg Brewer said. "I thought our kids fought hard in spots ... I thought we wrestled well top-to-bottom. They're a good team and a lot of our shortcomings tonight were because they're such a good team."

Rock Hill boasted a higher-ranked wrestler than Greenwood in six individual matches.

In each of those six matches, a Bearcat won six points. Seth Beck at 112, Jake Grav at 125, Nick Brown at 171 and Jody Helms at 215 won by pin, while Weston Beck at 103 and Chase Ballard at 145 won by forfeit.

• LEXINGTON 37, SOUTH POINTE 36 -- Last week, South Pointe won its opening round of the Class AAAA wrestling playoffs by getting four wins out of five in the heavier classes. In the second round at Lexington on Wednesday, the Stallions won them again -- but it didn't make any difference.

The Wildcats built up such a lead with their lightweights that in spite of forfeiting three of the four heavier weight classes, they won 37-36 over the Stallions. Lexington led 37-18 before ceding the final three matches.

The Wildcats will face Rock Hill on Monday.

"It wasn't easy," Lexington coach Derek Strobel said after his squad improved to 25-9 on the season. "We had a couple of guys who stepped in and did a good job of picking it up. At 160, Alex Morales had a huge win for us."

Lexington found itself in a 6-0 hole after South Pointe's Ramon Truesdale pinned Tyrell Fossell at 285 pounds early in the second period.
