Rock Hill's Beck brothers, Weston, Seth and Chad, all made it to the finals. That has only happened one other time in recent recollection. The Martins from Eastside High School -- Corbin, Bryce and Jordan -- all won state titles in 2005.

As for the Becks, Weston won at 103 pounds and Chad took the 135-pound crown. Seth lost a tough 2-1 decision.

Fort Mill's James Brotemarkle defended his title at 119. He became only the school's second two-time state champ.

Zach Neubert was the first Clover grappler to win a championship. He won at 160. He nearly bowled over coach Michael Fitzgerald when he jumped into his arms following his win.

Northwestern's Jared Williams won the 125 title after finishing fourth a year ago.

The fact that so many champions came out of the region didn't shock Fitzgerald.

"It doesn't surprise me. We are all competitive in this region. We make each other better," Fitzgerald said.

Rock Hill will have one more chance to get three state champs from the Becks. The twins, Weston and Seth, are only freshman. Chad is a junior.

Weston had the first match of the finals at 103 pounds. He said he doesn't like to wrestle first. He said he gets nervous.

It didn't show.

He scored a take down late in the first period to lead 2-0. Thirty seconds into the second period, he put a hold on Wando's Will James that led to a pin with 51 seconds remaining. Beck called the hold "the butcher."

"When I caught his arm I knew I had him," Beck explained. "Even if I didn't pin him, I was going to get some points."

It was a great start to the championship round.

A split-second after the referee raised Beck's arm in victory he ran to hug his coaches. Just as quickly he was encouraging twin brother Seth, getting set for his match at 112.

"I was just so happy," Weston said. "I tried to get over to talk to Seth. He is a great wrestler. He'll win here next year."

Seth led 1-0 through two periods against Summerville's Aaron Hansen. Hansen scored a two-point reversal at the 1:08 mark of the final period. Beck nearly scored an escape with 11 seconds left that would have tied the match but wasn't able to break free.

Brotemarkle built an early lead to beat Irmo's Kyle Manross in a rematch of the Upper State finals. Brotemarkle defeated Manross on February 16 by one point. Saturday he won handily, 11-2.

Fort Mill coach Chris Brock had Brotemarkle at 125 to start the season. He moved him to 130 a couple times before allowing him to return to 119.

In the 125-pound match, Northwestern's Williams broke through with a 7-5 win over Mauldin's Adam Kern. The match was a sequel to the Upper State match a week ago when Williams wrapped up his second-straight Upper State title.

He finished in fourth at the state tourney last year. But after winning the upper state again he felt good about his chances of winning this year.

Chad Beck outlasted Wesley Dallas of Fort Dorchester in perhaps the best match of the tournament. Beck needed three overtimes to post a 6-5 decision.

Beck led 3-2 in the third period when Dallas scored a two-point takedown. Beck tied it at 4 with an escape with 11 seconds to go to send it to overtime.

Clover's Neubert was pacing back and forth getting ready for his match against White Knoll's Thomas Speers. Speers was the only person to beat Neubert this season. Neubert was determined not to let it happen again.

The Clover senior jumped out to an early lead and won the match 14-3.
