Rib-tickling bluegrass gospel

The gospel-singing Sanders Family is together again in “Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming,” a musical comedy presented by the Fort Mill Community Playhouse. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

It’s 1945, the war is over and America’s years of prosperity are just beginning. But there’s another rite of passage at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where the Rev. Mervin Oglethorpe is giving his last service. He’s been called to preach in Texas, and he’s already bought a 10-gallon hat and is preparing to ride into the sunset with his wife June, who is eight months pregnant. The young Dennis Sanders is set to take over as Mount Pleasant’s pastor. Join the Sanders Family as they send Mervin and June off in style, with hilarious and touching stories and 25 toe-tapping, Bluegrass Gospel favorites.

Tickets are $15, adults and $13 for students and seniors. Reservations are recommended. Go to fortmillplayhouse.org or call 803-548-8102. Tickets available at Tega Cay Pharmacy and Crossings on Main.
