Classic Novel 'Treasure Island' Is Being Adapted With This Marvel Star, 57, Attached
Some historical tales just can't be put to rest in Hollywood.
That includes Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, whose iconic novel was published way back in 1883 and has become one of the most-often dramatized and adapted books ever.
And the list goes, Deadline reports, with Ridley Scott on board to direct an all-new movie adaptation and Hugh Jackman attached to play the one and only pirate known as Long John Silver. Added to the star power, Adolescence writer Jack Thorne penned the script and will executive produce.
The red-hot package is hitting the market this week and expects to have every major studio in the mix for it, Deadline also noted on Monday, June 8. It's reportedly a new take on Stevenson's renowned novel, whose story follows a young boy as he uncovers the map to a buried treasure and embarks on a perilous sea voyage to claim a hidden fortune - only to find himself coming face-to-face with and battling the infamous Long John Silver.
Since its publication in 1883, Treasure Island has sold more than 100 million copies worldwide and been translated into over 50 languages, making it one of the most influential adventure novels of all time, per Deadline.
Among the adaptations over the years was the family-friendly Muppet Treasure Island (1996), for all the millennials out there who might have grown up watching it on VHS. Among the laugh-out-loud musical's highlights was the great Tim Curry as Long John Silver.
Meanwhile, Jackman, 57, made headlines recently when it was announced he'd be reuniting with Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Ryan Reynoldsfor a brand-new Disney project. Reynolds, 49, will lead reportedly a docuseries about the SailGP team he co-owns with Jackman.
The show will see Australia's fastest sailors travel the world to face elite rivals while onboarding their world-famous owners, led on the water by decorated sailor Tom Slingsby, per Deadline.
