Tucked in River Hills on Lake Wylie is an internationally-known commercial artist, Jonay di Ragno, whose work graces the living spaces for many all over the world.
“I express everyday life subtleties through the act of painting,” di Ragno said. “My work extends out of the abstract expressionism movement and speaks of the human experience, such as pleasure, tension and gratitude.”
Born in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, di Ragno grew up in Puerto Rico. He began painting at a young age and showed exceptional talent by his teen years.
Abstract expressionism, as di Ragno explains it, comes from something real, but one might focus on one part. For example, history knows the flower, but it is how the artist can deconstruct it.
“My previous works show loud scenes and bright Caribbean colors,” di Ragno said. “However, now I am enjoying the beautiful grays, greens and purples of River Hills. The marina, especially, is influencing my current works.”
Not only does di Ragno see the beauty of Lake Wylie and the surrounding region, he also sees the potential for other artists to give the community the gift of art.
“After being in River Hills for a couple years now, one of my goals is to build a local art scene for members of the community,” di Ragno said. “I see all of us artists: painters, sculptors, photographers, jewelers, etc., coming together to display our work on both social and educational platforms.”
He is looking for community members interested in assisting with his vision by exhibiting or offering space. He can be contacted at email@example.com.
“Art to me is an anecdote of the spirit,” says di Ragno. “Art should bring spiritual force into our lives and into our spaces. I am not trying to solve art; instead art re-solves me.”
