LAKE WYLIE -- A mixed-use development soon could replace the Girl Scout Camp Catawbaw on Lake Wylie, Girl Scout officials said Wednesday.
The Charlotte-based Hornets' Nest Council announced plans last month to sell the 30-year-old camp, which spans 27 acres on the lake's south shore, near S.C. 274 and the Big Allison Creek bridge.
A buyer was scheduled to close on the property last week but has defaulted on the contract, said Lori Hurd, the council's chief executive.
The buyer has 10 days to pay before the council opens the land to "numerous" interested parties, two of which have made verbal offers, she said. Hurd declined to name the interested parties but said they are developers with an interest in a corporate and residential project.
