STEELE CREEK -- At a first court appearance Friday for a Charlotte man accused of killing a worker in his Lake Wylie neighborhood, relatives expressed sorrow for the victim's family.
Demetrio Calvillo, 36, was shot to death at about 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Pierpointe neighborhood while servicing a portable toilet, according to police.
Police charged Justus Dane Moss, 27, Thursday in the killing. He is being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail without bond until his next court date, April 14.
Moss' family and friends hugged, some wiping away tears, as they consoled one another outside the courtroom.

Speaking on behalf of the Moss family, friend Joel Hyatt said they are praying for the Calvillo family and send their condolences.
Police did not give details about what led to the shooting, but said Moss, who lives on Point Lookout Road in Steele Creek near Lake Wylie, used a small-caliber handgun. Moss' father was home at the time of the shooting and called 911, Detective David Osorio said.
Calvillo worked for A Sani-Can, a company based in Lincoln County that supplies and cleans portable toilets.
Calvillo, who was married with children, had worked for the company for three years, said Neeley Womble, who handles human resources for A Sani-Can.
