Clinics set to begin April 25

Sign-ups for Lacrosse Clinics are going on now at the Fort Mill YMCA, 857 Promenade Walk, Fort Mill. Clinics will be taught by Planet Lacrosse and are open to children aged 5 to 10.

Clinics will be held from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Saturdays, April 25-May 30. Cost is $75 for members, $95 for non-members. For information, call 803-548-8020.


League forming

USTA Mixed Doubles adult tennis teams are forming. The season runs May 16-July 18. Cost is $20, plus any applicable court fees. USTA membership is required. For more information, call 803-222-7792 or e-mail


Help Red Cross

GASTONIA -- The 21st annual Choice USA/American Red Cross Golf Tournament will be held April 30 at Gaston Country Club. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. With the help of premier sponsor Choice USA/Sun Drop, this event is the Gaston County Chapter's largest fundraiser.

Cost is $500 per team with survivor kits available for $100 per team. There will be hole-in one-and putt-for-cash opportunities. Price includes a box lunch and awards banquet.

Lions tourney set, sponsors needed

River Hills Lions Charities Golf Tournament & Business Expo will begin with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. May 8 at River Hills Country Club. Cost: RHCC golf members, $100; non-members, $145. Businesses that service the Lake Wylie area are invited to participate as golf hole sponsors and showcase products and services.

Three sponsorship are: Diamond ($500) with canopy, a business representative on tee box, one player in the tournament, attend the awards dinner, showcase product or services at the clubhouse and receive recognition for contribution; gold ($250) with business representative on the tee box of choice, signage on the tee box, one representative attend the awards dinner, showcase product or services at the clubhouse and receive recognition for contribution; and silver ($125) with signage at the clubhouse and recognition at the awards dinner.

Summer golf program announced

River Hills Country Club's summer program will consist of eight weeks of junior golf instruction that will cover all facets of the game, along with a program to get children ready for the golf course.

Programs will be held from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. with ages 10 and older beginning June 10 and ages 9 and younger beginning June 11.

The summer series costs $100 for members or $150 for non-members.

Individual sessions cost $20 per week for members or $25 per week for non-members.

Hall of Fame induction May 5

Tickets for the 2009 York County Sports Hall of Fame induction to be held at 5:30 p.m. May 5 at Baxter Hood Center on Anderson Road are on sale at the following locations: South Carolina Bank and Trust at 1127 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill; 801 Liberty St., York; 808 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill.

Don Arrant, Sam Foster Jr., John Godbold, Hank Hammond and Jay Killen are the 2009 Inductees. Bobby Richardson, former New York Yankees second baseman, will be guest speaker.
