Thieves stole about $3,300 worth of equipment from a construction trailer parked at the site of a new middle school being built in Lake Wylie, police say.
Eight hammer drills and two saws were reported stolen around 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to a report from the York County Sheriff’s Office.
A contractor on the site told police that locks on two trailers had been cut, but only one was opened.
Police also spotted a window in the rear of the new Oakridge Middle School that was busted in with a 2-by-4 piece of lumber, causing another $300 in damages. It didn’t appear that anyone had entered the school, the report said.
Oakridge, located on Highway 557, did not have an alarm system installed at the time of the burglary, the report said. Officers could not lift fingerprints from the scene.
