Police arrested a 29-year-old Rock Hill man Monday night after they say hebroke into another man’s apartment and beat him to death.
Steven Freeman of 713 Nations Court was charged with murder, first-degreeburglary and resisting arrest after police say he broke out a front windowof Michael Burgess’ home at 1916 Paces Landing Ave., went inside andapparently beat the 30-year-old man with his hands and feet, said Lt. LesHerring.
A neighbor saw the commotion and called 911 shortly before 9 p.m., Herringsaid. When officers arrived, they found Burgess lying on the floor. Freemanwas still inside the home and struggled with officers before he wasarrested.
Burgess was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and died thereearly this morning, authorities said.

Herring said police are still trying to determine how many people were inthe home at the time of the assault. Police are also investigating howFreeman knew Burgess, if at all.
“We’re still trying to piece everything together,” Herring said.
