ROCK HILL - Mrs. Harriette Iler London, 87, of 641 Heathridge Road, died after a short illness, Saturday, July 7, 2007 at Westminster Health Center.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, at Episcopal Church of Our Saviour with the Revs. Joe Mills and William F. Malambri III officiating and the Reverend Robert Dunbar assisting. Burial will be at Laurelwood Cemetery.
A native of Greenville, Mrs. London was a daughter of the late Harry Burr and Janie Henrietta Chandler Iler. Mrs. London was the widow of John Rutherford London Jr. She was a 1941 graduate of Furman University where she received a B.A. degree in Education and was vice president of her senior class. She taught first grade in the Greenville County School District and served as president of the Greenville County Teacher's Association and then taught kindergarten at Rogers Memorial A.R.P. Church in Rock Hill.
Mrs. London was raised in First Baptist Church in Greenville and joined the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Rock Hill in 1946. She was president of the Episcopal Church Women and of Saint Ann's Guild and she served on the Vestry and the Altar Guild. She was past president of the Glencairn Garden Club, former board member of the Rock Hill Debutante Club, a member of the Book Review Club, the Tuesday Afternoon Book Club, the Catawba Chapter of D.A.R. for 50 years and the Junior Welfare League, where she served as recording secretary.
Surviving are her two daughters, Janie McIntyre and her husband, D.G. of Charlotte, N.C. and Chandler "Chan" Boyd and her husband, John of Greenville; son, John R. London III and his wife, Joyce of Madison, Ala.; her devoted caregiver and friend, Alfreda Coleman of Rock Hill; 15 grandchildren: Chandler McIntyre and her husband, Taylor Short and Rhett Leake and her husband, Patrick all of Charlotte, Jane Barghothi and her husband, A.J. and London Boyd all of Columbia, Sally Malambri and her husband, Will of Florence, Sandy Boyd and her husband, Blake of Asheville, N.C. and Betsy, Sadie, Abby, Joshua, Annie, Rusty, Rachel, Molly and Sammy London all of Madison; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday (prior to the service) at the church parish hall and other times at 641 Heathridge Road.
