ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Virginia Jenkins Courtney, passed away July 10, 2007, five days before her 96th birthday, in Rock Hill, S.C. She was the oldest and last survivor of all her brothers and sisters. She was born July 15, 1911, the daughter of A. L. and Mary Parker Jenkins.
She was a charter member of Clanton Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and currently the oldest member of Walkerville Presbyterian Church, Waxhaw, N.C.
Mrs. Courtney was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis in 2005, after a 71 year marriage. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Jerry Ronald Courtney and infant son, David L. Courtney. She is survived by daughter, Carol Moton and her husband, Larry; son, Dale Courtney and his wife, Pat; daughter-in-law Betty Courtney; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Important to her was her role as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a strong and independent lady and will be missed by all her family.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park. Officiating will be the Rev. Dan Lewis of Walkersville Presbyterian Church in Waxhaw and Rev. Bob Owens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
