A man died in a car accident this morning on Interstate 77, officials said. The accident, which happened around 5:45 a.m., backed up traffic on the southbound lanes of I-77 until well after 9 a.m.
The York County Coroner's Office has not released the man's name.
The accident happened right above the Cherry Road exit in York County.
Lance Cpl. Bryan L. McDougald said three vehicles, including a tractor-trailor, were involved in the accident.

"The driver of the first vehicle, got out of his car and was struck and killed," McDougald said. "There's a possibly a fourth vehicle, but we're currently reconstructing to determine if that was the case."
As of 9:40 a.m., one southbond lane was open but heavily congestion, McDougald said.
