Rose Smith

MOUNTAIN REST -- Mrs. Rose Yvonne (Von) Crenshaw Smith, 69, wife of J. Henry Smith, of 490 Village Creek Road, Mountain Rest, S.C., died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at her residence.

Born Christmas Day, 1937 in Fort Mill, Yvonne was the daughter of the late Thomas Fennell and Edna McCall Crenshaw. She graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1956 and Winthrop Nursing School in 1958. She worked as an LPN until 1970 when she became a full time homemaker. She became involved with local athletic and band activities with her husband and was a lifelong supporter of her son's athletic and musical activities. In the early 1980s, she served as an officer in both athletic and band booster clubs at Fort Mill High School. She was known as a talented craftsperson and seamstress, making wedding dresses for friends and family and drum major and color guard uniforms for the Fort Mill High Marching Band.

A Christmas baby, she loved decorating for the season and the Crenshaw family Christmas Eve reunion was a tradition for over 35 years. She lived more than 50 years in Fort Mill before moving to Mountain Rest last year.

In addition to her husband of 44 years, Mrs. Smith is survived by son, Joseph H. (Joey) Smith of Mountain Rest; and sisters, Frieda Wilson of Conway, S.C., and Carolyn Crenshaw of Mountain Rest; brothers, Thomas Fennell (Buck) Crenshaw Jr. of Bluffton, S.C., and Edward Michael (Pete) Crenshaw of Rock Hill, S.C. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today, Aug. 11, 2007, at the home from 3 to 5 p.m. and again on Sunday, Aug. 12 from 3 to 5 p.m.
