ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Michelle Punshon Covington, 74, of Rock Hill died Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fort Mill, with the Rev. Sally Franklin and the Rev. Ann Bonner-Stewart officiating.
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Covington was the daughter of the late Marvin P. Punshon and the late Myrtle Irene Gearherd Punshon. She was married to the late Dr. Neil R. Covington Sr. She was a Red Cross instructor, emergency duty worker, Chairman of volunteers and disaster relief, Board of Directors, National Disaster volunteer, and recipient of The Clara Barton Award. She was a Special Olympics Area Eleven-volunteer and recipient of the Special Olympics S.C. Family of the Year Award, former leader of a Girl Scout troop for girls who are mentally disabled, recipient of the Hiram Hutchison Therapeutic Award, and the Governor's Award for Employment of people with disabilities. She also was a former docent with the Museum of York County. She formerly served on the vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a past Sr. Warden. She was also a Lay Reader and served on the Altar Guild for St. Paul's and was past President of the Episcopal Church Women. She was formerly the general advisor for Winthrop College Theta Sigma Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha and received the Alumae Certificate of Merit. She was the 1996 recipient of the Rock Hill Sertoma Club Service to Mankind Award and a 2007 Come See Me Hometown Hero.
Mrs. Covington is survived by her son, Ron Covington Jr. and wife, Jefflyn of Fort Mill; her daughters, Lynda Stewart and husband, Frank and Kathy Covington, all of Rock Hill; and her grandchildren, Jeff Bonner-Stewart and wife, Ann of Greenville, N.C., David Stewart of Ann Arbor, Mich., Lindsay Stewart of Rock Hill and Anna Covington of Fort Mill.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service at the church.
