CHESTER -- Mrs. Frances (Sitter) Mills Taylor, 92, died Aug. 13, 2007. Born in Fort Mill, S.C., she was the daughter of John Barron Mills and Ziza Young Mills. She was a graduate of Fort Mill High School and Winthrop College before marrying Thomas DuRant Taylor and moving to Chester, S.C., where she devoted her life to building a home for her husband and their four children. She was active in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, was president of the Women's Association several times, was a circle leader and helped form the Young People's Christian Union, serving as their advisor for many years. She was president of the local PTA, room mother for her children's classes and participated in the Sunshine Garden Club and several bridge clubs. She was an avid golfer, a member of the Springmaid Ladies Golf Association and won awards in state matches in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. She and DuRant enjoyed spending time at Bonclarken, the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Conference Center. She served as chairman of the committee to build and decorate Synodical Hall and co-chaired the Bonclarken Mountain Club. The Bonclarken Board of Trustees presented her with an appreciation award for help with the Swimming Pool Project and other services. Later she was inducted into the Honor Roll of Visionaries and Servant Leaders of Bonclarken. She was involved with Erskine College and inducted as an honorary alumni.
The family will receive friends at Barron Funeral Home, Thursday, Aug. 16 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., with services at Chester Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church at 4 p.m., Dr. Dwight L. Pearson officiating. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
