CONWAY -- Margaret Brunson Goldfinch, age 87, wife of 57 years of the late G. Heyward Goldfinch Sr., of Beaty Street, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007 at her residence following an illness.
Mrs. Goldfinch was born in Sumter, S.C., a daughter of the late Clarence Wentworth and Mamie Blackwell Brunson. She was a 60-year member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and leader of the Juniors. Mrs. Goldfinch was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Bessie Henry Circle.
She attended Lander College in 1937 and graduated from McLeod School of Nursing in 1941. As a registered nurse, Mrs. Goldfinch joined the U.S. Army Air Corps as a First Lieutenant serving in World War II. Mrs. Goldfinch took an active part in the life of her community and was an honorary member of the Conway Kiwanis Club. She was one of the founding leaders of the Girl Scout Council of the Pee Dee. She served as Scout Leader, Neighborhood Chairman and District Chairman. In 1964, she was presented with the Thanks Badge, Girl Scouts highest honor, for her work on the organization's behalf.
Mrs. Goldfinch was predeceased by a brother, Clarence W. Brunson Jr. and a son-in-law, William E. "Bill" Turner Jr. Mrs. Goldfinch was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Surviving are: one son, George H. Goldfinch Jr. and his wife, Susie of Conway; two daughters, Cynthia G. Turner and companion, Sam Durham of Conway and Merilyn G. Cain and her husband, Sam of Clover; six grandchildren, William E. Turner III and his wife, Maria of Greenville, S.C., Bryan Cain and his wife, Anna of Simpsonville, S.C., Dr. David B. Turner and his wife, Lori Buse-Turner of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jonathan G. Cain of Clover, Meghan G. Goldfinch and George "Heyes" Goldfinch III both of Conway; two great-grandchildren, Rebecca Turner and Rachel Turner, both of Greenville; and one sister, Merrell B. Jones and her husband, George of Manning, S.C.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mac Kinnett and Rev. Carl Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
