ROCK HILL -- Mr. Robert James Lewis Castles of 7728 Rockwood Drive died Sept. 28, 2007, at home. He was born July 24, 1936 in Rock Hill, S.C. He was a son of the late Will Neile and Lillie Mae McGee Neile and raised by the late Odell and Amanda Kennedy. Robert moved to Plainfield, N.J. at the age of 8, graduated from Plainfield High School June 1955, joined the U.S. Air Force in October 1955 and retired from the Air Force after 23 years of service. Robert Castles was employed by the Food and Drug Administration, York County Board of Disabilities and Special Need and Frito Lay, where he retired from. He loved to travel. He was a member of Boyd Hill Baptist Church, where he served as Pastor Aid, Trustee and Sunday School teacher and was a member of the men's choir and Helping Hand.
He leaves to cherish fond memories his wife, Myra Castles; one son, Denzel Castles of the home; two daughters, Robbie Castles of Plainfield, N.J., and Dominique Mobley of Rock Hill; one grandson, TayShawn Hope; two brothers, Sandy Kennedy (Barbara) and Donald Kennedy (Martha); five sisters, Ann Chisholm (Robert), Joyce Roddey (Michael) of Rock Hill, Willa Prince of Willingboro, N.J., Sandra Brown and Darcell Thomas of Baltimore; one aunt, Pearline White (Joe) of Baltimore; four brothers-in-law, James McClenningham, Charles McClenningham (Betty), Larry McClenningham and Jeffrey McClenningham; six sisters-in-law, Kathleen Kirk, Mary Lee Cunningham, Ethel Johnson, Shirley McClenningham and Adrianne Love (Everett), all of Rock Hill and Diane Boyd (James) of Raleigh, N.C. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Maggie Peoples and Mary Barber and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Funeral Home. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Boyd Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Thomas Barber officiating and the Rev. Hazel Hill assisting. Burial will be at Rock Hill Memorial Gardens.
