CHERRYVILLE, N.C. -- Clara Delle Stroupe, formerly of 443 St. Mark's Church Road, Bessemer City, N.C., died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at Carolina Care Center, Cherryville.

Clara Delle Stroupe was born Oct. 13, 1915, in Gaston County to the late Bert and Sudie Stroupe. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she served as pianist and as Sunday School teacher in her early life and later served as librarian and church historian.

She attended Gardner Webb College, Boiling Springs, N.C., and graduated from Asheville Teachers College, Asheville, N.C. She received her Masters degree from Winthrop University, Rock Hill.

Miss Stroupe was a school teacher for 38 years at Mooresboro in Cleveland County, N.C., and at East Belmont and Page Elementary, Belmont, N.C. in Gaston County.

She was a charter member of Alpha Eta Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary sorority for teachers, a life member of the National Education Association and a life member of the North Carolina Education Association.

Deceased are two sisters, one brother, two nieces, one nephew and one great-nephew. She is survived by her niece, Martha K. Hinson of Rock Hill; nephew, Fred Louie Stroupe of Cherryville; eight great-nieces and nephews, Julie Stroupe, Allen Hinson, Michael Hinson, Devin Hinson, Angela Morton, Suzanne Wall, Eric Morin and Ted Kiser; 13 great-great-nieces and nephews and four great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church, Cherryville, with Rev. Robert Redding officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
