ROCK HILL -- Ms. Lynn Carter Koven, 55, of 1672 Estes Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
A lifelong resident of Rock Hill, Lynn was born on July 1, 1952, the oldest of three children born to the late Robert B. Carter and Phyllis Carnes Carter. She graduated from Rock Hill High School and earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Winthrop University.
Lynn distinguished herself through 35 years of employment with the City of Rock Hill in the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Services. A recipient of the Ben Ardrey Volunteer Award, her efforts as team leader and liaison in community based programs including Come-See-Me, Clean And Green, and Jubilee, have set the bar high for those who will follow. Lynn's unconditional love for all the people and creatures in this world will shine for all time.
Survivors include her husband, Gary M. Koven of the home; her mother and stepfather, Phyllis Carter Garris and Crawford A. "Crawdad" Garris of Rock Hill; her brother, R. Arnold Carter (Nancy) of Rock Hill; her sister, Lisa C. Brantley of Rock Hill; her stepson, Benjamin A. Koven of Shawnee, Kansas; her stepdaughter, Sara B. Koven of Kansas City, Mo.; her niece, Katy D. Brantley of Rock Hill; her nephew, Krystopher R. Brantley of Rock Hill; her grandnephew, D. Mark Brown Jr. of Rock Hill; and her four cats, Gracie, Jinx, Chloe and Annie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of York County, 2036 Carolina Place, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
A celebration of life and hope in Lynn's honor will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Fewell Park. Additional arrangements will be private.
