YORK -- Mr. Eugene Burris, 77, of 122 Lowry Row, departed this life Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at his residence. He was born July 7, 1930 in York County, the son of the late Walker Burris and Rita Hardin.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the St. John Baptist Church in Sharon, with Rev. John T. Brown officiating. Burial will be at Lakeview Memory Gardens in York.
Mr. Burris was educated through the public schools of York County. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired after 32 years of employment with Celanese in Rock Hill. He was member of St. John Baptist Church in Sharon, where he served on the Usher board and in the Brotherhood. He was a member of the Elks: Sterling Lodge #344 in Rock Hill.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James L. Burris.

Surviving to cherish fond memories are his wife, Margie Howell Burris of the home; one brother, William Sherer (Agnes) of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers-in-law, John "Jim" D. Howell and James "JW" Howell both of York, Arthur "Butch" L. Howell of Philadelphia, Pa. and Williams Sims of Gastonia, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Anna Ervin of Philadelphia and Helen Pharr of York; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The body may be viewed from 6 to 8 tonight at the Chapel of Wright Funeral Home in York.
