TEGA CAY -- Mr. William Harry Byrd, 77, of 1024 Bounty Lane passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at his home.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with visitation to follow the service.
A native of McComas, W.Va., Mr. Byrd was the son of the late William Cletus Byrd and the late Ursula Binks Goodwin Byrd. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Elks Lodge, a Mason and 32 degree Shriner. He graduated from War High School in West Virginia and attended Bluefield College and Virginia Tech. He finished flight school in San Antonio, Texas. He was LTC (Retired) U.S. Air Force and a retired school teacher who taught JROTC at Northwestern High School from 1971-1989. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, where he received the distinguished flying cross and the purple heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Alan K. Byrd.
Mr. Byrd is survived by his son, Dirk William Byrd and wife, Dana of Williston, S.C.; his sister, Jackie Whittaker of Rock Hill; his companion, Jerri Wensil; and grandchildren, Christopher, Dane and Kathryn.
Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel is serving the Byrd family.
