YORK -- Baxter B. Robinson Jr., 76, formerly of York, won a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease and cancer on Friday morning, Nov. 16, 2007.
Baxter was preceded in death by his loving wife, JoAnne Maxie-Robinson; his father, Baxter Sr.; his mother, Sudie Stewart-Robinson and in-laws, George and Catherine Maxie of Rock Hill.
Baxter is survived by a sister, Margaret Smith of York; a daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne R. and Rev. Eddy Bunton of Morganton, N.C.; a son, "Barney" Robinson III of Morganton, N.C.; a special sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Bill Plaxco of York; grandchildren, Caleb, Jesse, Nathaniel and Hannah JoAnne Bunton; a special friend of the family, Janice T. Widener; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends.
Mr. Robinson was a veteran of the United States Army, an employee of Celanese Corporation for 42 years and a farmer his whole life. Baxter was a loving husband, devoted father and faithful friend. An avid collector of antique tractors and "hit-and-miss" engines, Baxter was a founding member and past president of the York Antique Power Club. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of York. His family will be forever grateful to the members of Jim Phillips' Sunday School Class for their faithful service and care during the onset of his illness. Baxter's towering presence and special humor will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends and family from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Bratton Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of York. The Revs. Eddy Bunton, Bart Plaxco and Trey Doyle will be officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
