Grophie Mae Gilfillan

BLACKSBURG -- Grophie "Granny" Mae Childers Gilfillan, 91, of 149 Gilfillan Road died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

The wife of the late Samuel "Sam" Edward Gilfillan, and daughter of the late John and Mamie Ramsey Childers, Mrs. Gilfillan worked as a homemaker and was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gilfillan is survived by two sons, Eddie and Kent Gilfillan, both of Blacksburg; three daughters, Betty Leagon of Blacksburg, Brenda Moss of Blacksburg and Yvonnie Gordon of Gaffney, S.C.; a sister, Lela Wright of Gaffney; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gilfillan is preceded in death by a son, Joe Dean Gilfillan; and a daughter, Sybil Blanton.

The family will host a receiving of friends on Sunday evening at Gordon Mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph Clayton. Entombment will follow at Clingman Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the residence. An online guest book is available at
