Ossie D. Banks

ROCK HILL -- Mr. Ossie D. Banks, 61, of 289 Greentree Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Robertson officiating and the Rev. Willie Caldwell delivering the eulogy.

A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Banks was a son of the late James Thomas and Gertrude Massey Banks of Rock Hill. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Lee Banks. He was employed with U.S. Bottlers Machinery Company and was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church, where he was a member of the youth department and Boy Scouts. Mr. Banks enjoyed tennis and fishing. He was the founder of Ossie D. Banks Tennis Program of Rock Hill.

He is survived by his wife, Sadie Hemphill Banks; four brothers, Nathaniel Banks, Albert (Elizabeth) Banks, Luther Banks and James Banks Jr., all of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary B. Barber and Dorothy Porter, both of Rock Hill; three stepdaughters, Michelle (Lorenzo) Moore and Victoria (Chelsey) Simms, both of Fort Mill, and Erin (Devon) White of Chester; one uncle, Simpson Banks of Charlotte; seven stepgrandchildren; mother-in-law, Mrs. Doacie Hemphill; brother-in-law, Frank Hemphill; sisters-in-law, Genette Hemphill and Ethel Banks, both of Rock Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Parker Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of his niece and caregiver, Norma (Thona) Banks, 289 Greentree Drive, Rock Hill.
