BLACKSTOCK -- Mr. Willie James Stewart, 61, of 5759 Heritage Road, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008, at his home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, at New Independent Methodist Church in Great Falls, S.C., with the Rev. Michael Ruff officiating and the Rev. Jacob Chisholm delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Fairfield County, he was the son of Almeter Stewart and the late Charles Goines. He was a member of New Independent Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee and was a member of Mount Zion Masonic Lodge 127, where he served as past Worshipful Master. He was a shriner of Cairo Temple 125 and a member of Rocky Mount 14, Royal Arch and Boaz Commandery 1. He attended the public schools in Great Falls and was a 1962 graduate of Elizabeth Heights High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors are two daughters, Tonga S. (Alonzo) Baldwin of the home and April (Rascheed) Roper of Buffalo, N.Y.; his mother, Almeter Stewart Grady of Tarrytown, N.Y.; five brothers, W.L. Stewart of Blackstock, S.C., James Grady, Michael Grady, Steven Grady and Sammy Grady, all of Tarrytown, N.Y.; three sisters, Mattie (David) Smith, Janet (James) Bess and Linda Grady, all of Tarrytown, N.Y.; adopted sister, Brenda Dewese of Blackstock; three grandchildren; and godmother, Dorothy Stewart of Blackstock; one aunt, Mildred Stewart of Queens, N.Y.
The family will receive friends at the residence. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Thursday.
