ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Irene Farmer Murr, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park on Cherry Road.
Born March 14, 1924 in Canton, N.C., Mrs. Murr was a daughter of the late Dewey E. and Christine Sisk Farmer. She graduated from Bethel High School and Blanton's Business College in Asheville, N.C. She worked for Civil Service before marrying her husband of 60 years, William Reuben Murr. She worked as a bookkeeper for Daniel Construction in Rock Hill until becoming a homemaker. She later worked at Efird's and JC Penney's Department Store in Rock Hill. Mrs. Murr was an avid walker, a member of College Park Baptist Church and the OWLS seniors group. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Murr is survived by her husband, Reuben Murr of Rock Hill; her daughter, Phyllis M. Helms and her husband, Nat of Fort Mill, S.C.; her son, Bill Murr and his wife, Amy of Conowingo, Md.; four grandchildren, Becky Helms of Waxhaw, N.C., David Helms of Fort Mill, S.C., Dewey Murr and wife, Jennifer of Colora, Md., and Andrew Murr and wife, Maria of Conowingo, Md.; two great-grandchildren, JR Buchanan and Grace Murr of Colora, Md.; two sisters, Tulon Berry of Hollywood, Fla., and Vera Melican of Temple City, Calif.; and a brother, Richard Farmer of Canton, N.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Farmer.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service on Monday at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill and other times at her home.
