ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Frances Oates Gryder passed away Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at Willowbrook Court, Park Pointe Village. Her life was one of loving and faithful generosity to her church, family, friends and community.
Mrs. Gryder was born Nov. 4, 1915 in York County, a daughter of the late Ralph B. and Precia Allison Oates, both pioneer York County families. She was a member of Friendship U.M.C., where she taught Sunday School for 50 years. Mrs. Gryder was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Roy Winfield Gryder; son, Patrick Oates Gryder; and brother Robert Munroe Oates. She is survived by two sons, Roy W. Gryder Jr. and wife, Patricia of Huntsville, Ala. and William F. Gryder of Sacramento, Calif.; sister, Eleanor Oates Karres and husband Gus, Mrs. Gryders devoted caregivers of Rock Hill; two grandsons, Brian W. Gryder of San Jose, Calif. and Michael H. Gryder of Huntsville, Ala.; great-granddaughters, Nicole and Lauren Gryder of Birmingham, Ala.; four step-grandchildren, Judy Bansby, Angela McAteer and Randy and Sandy Crowder; and seven step-great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church, officiated by the Reverend Mike Vandiver. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Church, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Friendship U.M.C. Cemetery.
