ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Sophie Walker Cureton, of 404 Porter Road, departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2008, at the home of her granddaughter, Portia Gadsden.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rock Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Dr. Ralph V. Washington officiating. The Rev. David Gadsden will deliver the eulogy. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
A native of York County, she was the daughter of the late George and Emma Walker. She was educated in the public schools of York County and was a former member of Rock Grove AME Zion Church. She was the widow of James Cureton.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Cureton of Charlotte, N.C., and Linda King (Charles E.) of Waxhaw, N.C.; three grandchildren, Portia Gadsden (David) of Charlotte, Charles V. King (Chervitwaun) of Concord, N.C., and Samantha King of Waxhaw; four great-grandchildren, Latrez King, Amanda Gadsden, Meghan Gadsden and Gabrielle King; and one brother, Robert Walker (Carmella) of Englewood, N.J.

Mrs. Cureton may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home and from noon until time of the service Friday at the church. The family would like to offer a special thanks to the staff of Hospice at Charlotte and to Dr. Pal and his staff at Ballentyne Oncology.
