LANCASTER -- Mr. James Harvey Sturdevant Sr., 72, of 722 Central Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Hunter Wood Nursing and Rehab in Charlotte, N.C.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Center Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Waxhaw, N.C., with the Rev. Robert Taylor officiating. Flowers can be sent to Margaret Sturdevant, c/o Corinne Miller, 2156 Dam Road, Fort Mill, SC 29708.
Mr. Sturdevant was born on Dec. 1, 1935, in Owego, N.Y. and was a son of the late Walter James Sturdevant and the late Eliza Mae Woodruff. He worked for E.E. Roots and Sons Construction as a Black Topper in Owego, N.Y., and retired in 1998. Thanks to Dr. Kokenes of Gast. Hepo. for his care and understanding and friendship, and older nursing staff and old emergency of the old Mercy South, Pineville N.C.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Margaret V. Sturdevant ; four sons, James H. and Sharon Sturdevant Jr. of Endicott, N.Y., Steven J. and Andrea Sturdevant of Lancaster, Zachary S. and Debra Sturdevant of Lincolnton, N.C., and William G. and Patricia Sturdevant of Clover; two daughters, Liana D. and George Kellam of Lancaster and Corinne F. and Michael Miller of Fort Mill; 26 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
A drop in reception will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 2156 Dam Road, Fort Mill, SC.
