Grady M. Porter

ROCK HILL -- Mr. Grady M. Porter, 90, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Lancaster Convalescent Center.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Catawba Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jack A. Nunn, Rick Sturgis and Dr. Tommy Huddleston officiating. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.

A native of Easley, S.C., Mr. Porter was a son of the late J. W. Porter and the late Essie Duncan Porter. He was a member of Catawba Baptist Church and a former deacon, where he spent many hours on the construction of the new worship building of Catawba Baptist Church. He was formerly employed as a carpenter with Daniel Construction, Marion Culp Builders, Jim Johnson Construction, as well as, running his own construction business. He was the widower of Marie Bowen Porter.

Mr. Porter is survived by his three daughters, Linda Beckner Sturgis and Judy Goodman, both of Rock Hill and Pat Nunn of Lancaster; three brothers, Lee Porter, Troy Porter and Ray Porter, all of Easley, S.C.; one sister, Ruth Kircus of Easley, S.C.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Ragsdale.

The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, March 4, 2008, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill.
