Willie Lou Hubbard

ORANGEBURG -- Mrs. Willie Lou Jacobs Hubbard, 91, of Maxwell Place, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, March 13, 2008.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 17, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry D. McCutcheon officiating. Burial will follow at Belleville Memorial Gardens.

Born July 1, 1916, Willie Lou was the a daughter of the late Paul D. and Janie Jacobs. She was the widow of Barney Harrison Hubbard.

In her early years, Willie Lou was educated in the Orangeburg public schools and was raised in the Cope Community with seven siblings. Six of whom preceded her in death.

Throughout her life, Willie Lou instilled in her sons and daughter to get the best education possible. She taught them to work hard and to strive for excellence. These values were reflected in the 30+ years where she worked in the cafeteria at Wilkinson High School, Orangeburg Five School District, were she was named cafeteria manager.

Willie Lou had a love for music, spending time with her family, traveling and working in the church. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, sang in the senior choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She served as treasurer for both organizations for many years.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Jr. and Miriam Hubbard of Burke, Va., Willie and Evelyn Hubbard of Orangeburg; her daughter and son-in-law, Barney Mae and Charles Smalls of Rock Hill; one sister, Mary Finley of Hollywood, Calif.; and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m., March 16, at Bythewood Funeral Home, Orangeburg.

Memorials may be made to the music ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church.
