ROCK HILL -- John Thomas Boyd, 75, of 778 Neely's Creek Road, passed away Friday, March 21, 2008, at Westminster Health and Rehab.
A native of Rock Hill, Mr. Boyd was born May 3, 1932 a son of the late Roy Hayes Boyd, Sr. and the late Carrie Ferguson Boyd. He was a retired Captain from the York County Sheriff's Office after 25 years, a charter member of Lesslie Volunteer Fire Department, where he was the former Fire Chief, former employee of Bass Funeral Home and a member of Neely's Creek ARP church, where he was an elder and deacon. Mr. Boyd was a U.S. Army veteran Staff Sergeant having served in the Korean Conflict and a member of the York County Fire Board and the York County Rural Fire Commission. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Dickson Boyd.
Surviving are his son, John Lyle Boyd and wife, Ginger, of Rock Hill; daughter, Jennie Boyd Costner and husband, Donald, of Rock Hill; brother, Roy H. Boyd Jr. of Rock Hill; and three grandchildren, Carrie Boyd, Hannah Costner and Zach Costner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bass-Cauthen Funeral Home.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Boyd will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Neely's Creeks ARP Church Family Life Center, with the Rev. Jan Senneker and the Rev. Lee Dye officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Honors by The York County Sheriffs Department. Honorary pallbearers will be Elders and Deacons and the Mens' Bible Class of Neely's Creek ARP Church and members of Lesslie Volunteer Fire Department.
