ROCK HILL -- Mr. Grier Lee Paden, 84, of 534 Whitner St., passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at New Mount Olivet AME Zion Church with the Rev. Alvin W. McLamb officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Park.
Grier was born on June 23, 1923, in York, S.C., to the late Elliott Paden and Hollie Starnes Paden. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific. He received a degree in Tailoring and Alterations from North Carolina A & T University in Greensboro, N.C. He was self-employed as a Tailor and also retired from Celanese Fibers of Rock Hill, S.C. Grier was an author with two published books and recently completed a third unpublished book.
Grier is survived by four children, Phyllis Paden-Adams (Alonzo) and Edith Paden Fountain, both of Rock Hill, Dr. (Colonel) Vabian Lewitt Paden (Dr. Arlene Paden) of Waldorf, Md., and Janet Lenora Paden Baxley (Edward) of Tampa, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Paden Crome (Walter) of Rock Hill and Beatrice Paden of New York; two brothers, Voyrd Paden (Allene) and Joe Paden (Cora) of N.J.; one brother-in-law, James Rogers Davis (Reber) of York; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Graham of Gastonia, N.C., and Geraldine Byous of Calif.; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Paden may be viewed from 11 a.m. until time of the service Tuesday at the church. The family will receive friends at 539 Washington St.
