GREAT FALLS -- Mr. Shelby Luther Barker, 91, formerly of Great Falls and Rock Hill, died Wednesday, May 28, 2008, at Methodist Oaks Nursing Home in Orangeburg, S.C.
Funeral services will be at the graveside 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls, S.C., with the Rev. Tom Patterson and Christopher Barker officiating.
Mr. Barker was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Lancaster County, S.C., a son of the late Joe and Kate Knight Barker. He was formerly a member and deacon at First Baptist Church in Great Falls and was a member of Woodhaven Baptist Church in Rock Hill until his death. Mr. Barker was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of Great Falls Masonic Lodge 277 AFM. He was retired from J.P. Stevens Textile Company.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Murphy Barker of Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg, S.C.; one son, Dr. Glenn Barker and wife, Jean, of Rock Hill, S.C.; six grandchildren, Dr. Michael Barker of Columbia, S.C., Laura Morton, Christopher Barker, Nadia Barker and Mike Wicker, all of Rock Hill, Kevin Wicker of Wilmington, N.C., and Oxana Moore of Mountain Rest, S.C.; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Claude, Wade and Dewey Barker; a sister, Connie Pate; and a grandson, Brian Barker.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Glenn Barker, 4444 Cypress Cove, Rock Hill.
