ROCK HILL -- Arlie Ray Lucas, 75, of Rock Hill, S.C., passed away Monday, June 23, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Arlie Ray was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Charleston, W.Va., son of the late Arlie Ashworth and Inez Matheny Lucas. He was a prolific reader and loved to write poetry and listen to Gospel Music and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. His study of the Lucas-Matheny genealogy with his friend and cousin, Janet Shafer, provided joy in his life. Arlie Ray had a great disposition and people just loved to gather around him. He was a member of the Farrar Memorial Baptist Church, Rand.
Along with his parents, a brother, Jess Richard Lucas and a brother-in-law, Bob Coker preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert Lucas (Hughlene) of Rock Hill and Jack Lucas (Marge) of Clinton, Ind.; sister, Vada Coker of McConnell, S.C.; sister-in-law, Gwynne Lucas of Terre Haute, Ind.; as well as five nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home in Malden, W.Va., with the Rev. Jack Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at the Lucas Cemetery in Mill Creek, W.Va.
Family and friends may call today, June 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
