ORLANDO, Fla. -- Richard Phillip Carroll, of 14327 Hazeltine Court, Orlando, Fla., passed away June 26, 2008.
Mr. Carroll was born Nov. 28, 1917, in Louisville, Ky., but spent much of his life in Spartanburg, S.C. He served as Lieutenant First Class in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy. His life's work was as an engineer with various companies, including Spartan Automotive, Powdercraft, Homelite, Cryovac, Piper Aircraft, and Goosens Medical. He was a former member of St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Spartanburg and currently was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Orlando.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Clayton Carroll; three children, Nancy Carroll Owens (Wayne) of Spartanburg, Mary Odelia Carroll (Bob Congleton) of Casselberry, Fla., and Michael Phillip Carroll (Sandy) of Fort Smith, Ark.; two grandchildren, Denise Owens Worley (Rick) of Roebuck, S.C., and Rev. Kenneth Dwayne Owens (Kathy) of Rock Hill, S.C.; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held later in the year.
