ROCK HILL -- Mr. Charles Elwood Hoffman, 86, formerly of Long Valley and the Fairmount Section of Washington Township, Morris County, N.J., died July 14, 2008, suddenly at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Community, Rock Hill, S.C.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 22, at Long Valley Presbyterian Church, Bartley Road, Long Valley, NJ 07853. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery, Califon, N.J.
Mr. Hoffman was born Dec. 9, 1921, in Chester, N.J., the son of the late Elwood Peter and Norma C. Hamler Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman was the widower of Mildred H. Philhower Hoffman, his beloved wife of 61 years who passed away on June 23, 2008.
He is survived by a son, Lynn Hoffman of Hackettstown, N.J.; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Jeffrey Nicholson of Rock Hill; one granddaughter, Kathryn Nicholson; two brothers, Wallace Hoffman of Lakehurst, N.J., and Harold Hoffman of North Fort Myers, Fla.; and a sister, Susan Brustlin of Glen Rock, N.J.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lois Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman worked at Welsh Farm Dairy in Long Valley for many years and then was employed at Ken-Row Corporation in Cedar Knolls where he retired. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WW II, serving in the European African-Middle Eastern Campaign. He received the following: Good Conduct, WW II Victory, EAM Campaign, Army Occupation and American Campaign Medals with six Battle Stars and a Meritorious Unite Emblem Citation. Charles attended Hackettstown High School, he was a member of the Long Valley Presbyterian Church, The American Legion, Chester, N.J.; and a member of the Masonic Prospect Lodge #24, F & AM, Chester, N.J.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 21, at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Fairmount Fire Department, C/O 43 Schooley's Mountain Road, Long Valley, NJ 07853; or The Richardson Animal Rescue, 1968 Garvin Road, York, SC 29745.
