RICHBURG -- Mr. John Boyd McCrorey, 91, of 151 North Main St., died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, N.C.
The funeral will be 2 p.m., Sunday, July 27, at Richburg United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Linda Jenkins and Allen Derrick officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Richburg with Masonic Rites.
Mr. McCrorey was born March 13, 1917, in Richburg, S.C., and was the son of the late Samuel James and Mary Elizabeth McGarity McCrorey. He was currently serving as Mayor of Richburg having over forty-three consecutive years of service. He was also currently serving as a board member of Senior Companions of Chester County, a member of The Greater Richburg Association, the treasurer of Richburg United Methodist Church and the chairman of Union Cemetery, Richburg. He was a member of Richburg Masonic Lodge #89. He was a former member of Richburg Town Council, former chairman of Lewisville Area School Board and former store manager for Reid Brothers. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served during WWll.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Hipp McCrorey; one son, Robert Boyd McCrorey and his wife, Anita of Richburg; two daughters, Patricia M. and her husband, Dr. Gerald Hensley of Richburg and Rosemary M. and her husband, Maury Young of Goose Creek, S.C.; three grandchildren, Saye McCrorey and his wife, Alanna of Richburg, Amber Rose McCrorey of Charlotte, N.C., and Logan Tyler Young of Goose Creek, S.C.; one sister, Pauline Gladden of Richburg; and one brother, Carlisle McCrorey of Chester, S.C.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, July 26, at Barron Funeral Home, 133 Wylie Street, Chester, SC 29706.
