ROCK HILL -- Tommie James Mitchell, 56, of 961 Steele St., has passed away. Tommie is the son of Eula and Charles Truesdale of Rock Hill, S.C. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Hemphill of Charlotte, N.C.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. today, Aug. 7, 2008, at China Grove AME Zion Church, 4659 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, with the Rev. J. Martin Bouler officiating. Assisting on program will be the Rev. Richard Smith, the Rev. BJ Davis, Sister Iris Kennedy and Elder Kenneth Page.
The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, Eula Mae Truesdale, 828 Green St., Rock Hill.
A native of Rock Hill, Tommie attended Emmett Scott High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a self-employed concrete worker who was highly recommended for his concrete work. Tommie was also known as "Lil Tommie", "Short Dawg" and "Shorty T". His main hobbies were riding his bicycle, fishing, singing, playing his harmonica and playing any instrument that he could get his hands on. He was quite an entertainer.

Tommie leaves to cherish his fond memories one son, Angilo Robinson of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Ruth Ann Jimmerson of Charleston, S.C.; sisters, Linda Mitchell Hardin Feaster of Rock Hill and Jessie Brown of White Plains, N.Y.; a loving and supportive cousin, Maggie Turner; and two grandchildren.
