RALEIGH, N.C. -- Ms. Betty Jean Kennedy, 59, of Raleigh, N.C., died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008.
She was born in Rock Hill, S.C., to the late James O. Kennedy and Odessa Archie Kennedy.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Robinson Funeral Home Chapel of Rememberance, with the Rev. Paul Long officiating. A public viewing will be from 9 until 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Barber Memorial Cemetery.
During her early years, Ms. Kennedy was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church in Rock Hill and later Shiloh Baptist Church in Plainfield, N.J., and Abyssinia Baptist Church in Norfolk, Va. There she participated in the missionary society and the King's Kitchen Outreach Ministry and was honored by the Tidewater Baptist Missionary Society as an Outstanding Missionary.

Ms. Kennedy was employed as a food service attendant in the Rock Hill and Norfolk, public schools. Ms. Kennedy was also employed as a nursing assistant at Edison Estates in Edison, N.J.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Glenda and a brother, Samuel Edward Kennedy (Grip).
Surviving are her daughter, Edith Thompson-Aquil (Chris) of Norfolk; two sisters, Margaret Ann Kennedy-Hill (Eddie) of Norfolk and Linda F. Kennedy of Rock Hill; four brothers, James O. Kennedy Jr. and Willie Kennedy (Evelyn), both of Plainfield, N.J., Jackie Ray Kennedy and Randy Kennedy of Rock Hill; two grandchildren, Shaquanna and Cortez Thompson; uncle, Toy Ray Archie (Thelma) of Plainfield, N.J.; aunt, Mildred Kennedy of Cherry Hill, N.J.; a special niece, Latrise Kennedy-Carter (Keith) of Birmingham, Ala.; and a special friend, Elizabeth Williams Watkins of Rock Hill.
