ROCK HILL -- Mr. Chinell Clawson Sr., 66, of 1457 Quiet Acres Circle, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Margaret Powell officiating, and the Revs. James Scott, Ralph Cunningham and Leroy Ellison assisting. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Born on May 1, 1942, he was the son of the late John Robert and Annie Mae Clawson. He attended Chester County Schools and was the owner of Econo Body Shop. He was a member of Cedar Grove AME Church, where he was chairman of the trustee board, hymn choir leader No. 2, a class leader and a member of the Missionary Society. He was also a member of Mason Fraternal Union Lodge No. 136 in Great Falls, S.C.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John R. Clawson Jr. (J.C.) and Wallace Clawson.
Mr. Clawson is survived by his wife of 46 years, Annie S. Clawson; his grandmother, Esther Clawson of Rock Hill; two sons, Chinell Clawson Jr. (Dianne) and John F. Clawson, both of Rock Hill; three daughters, Anita C. Lewis (Greg) of Rock Hill, Valerie L. Clawson and Danielle D. Clawson, both of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Vitta Clawson, Eric Hope Jr., Jasmine Hicks, Dominique Hope and Janel Hicks; one great-grandson, Luis Robles III; two sisters, Bessie Alsup (Bob) of Fishkill, N.Y., and Beatrice Ballards of Paso Robles, Calif.; special cousin, Margaret R. Simmons of Landover, Md.; special cousin, Joanne Moore (Gene) of Rock Hill, whom he reared as a daughter; two uncles, Calvin Howard (Louise) and Bill Clawson, both of Rock Hill; three aunts, Creola Wilson of Philadelphia, Pa., Janie B. Waters and Janie M. Wherry (Lawrence), both of Rock Hill; one brother-in-law, Daniel Strong (Katherine); and two sisters-in-law, Josie Barber (Billy) and Dianne Brice (Ross); and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mr. Clawson may be viewed from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Funeral Home and from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service Monday at the church. Friends will be received at the family home.
