ROCK HILL -- Rev. Hubert "Bully" Faulkenberry, 76, of Country Club Drive, Rock Hill, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at his home.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Eastside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lewis Vehaun, Jack Leader, Luke Elrod and Dr. Jim Neal officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be held at 4 p.m. at the Kershaw City Cemetery.
Born in Kershaw, S.C., he was the son of John Richard "Rich" Faulkenberry and Ruby Christmas Faulkenberry. He was married 59 years to his high school sweetheart, Marian Faile Faulkenberry. Bully attended Kershaw public schools and Wingate College. He served as the pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church in Lancaster for 12 years and then as pastor of Eastside Baptist Church in Rock Hill for 22 years. He was also Pastor Emeritus at Eastside Baptist Church for 14 years until his death. Bully served as Director of Evangelism of the York Baptist Association from 1973 to 1994 and was voted Director of Evangelism Emeritus at the annual meeting in 1994. Bully has held many elected offices, including Trustee at Charleston Southern University. He was active in Frank Shivers Evangelistic Association and traveled and preached extensively in many foreign countries, including Nova Scotia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Italy, Israel, Switzerland and was the main speaker at the William Carey Bi-Centennial Celebration in India. He was active in all phases of Christian work and always witnessed to others about God's love and salvation.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marian Faile Faulkenberry; a son, John "Mac" Faulkenberry and wife, Karen, of Camden, S.C.; two daughters, Tina Rabon and husband, Ernie, of Chester and Lisa Funderburk and husband, Benny, of Rock Hill; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was also legal guardian to three of his grandchildren, Kevin Sims of Kershaw, Aimee Bailey of Rock Hill and Mandi Blackwelder of Fort Mill. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two sons, Keith Faulkenberry and Rick Faulkenberry; his sister, Mary Beth Poe; and one great-granddaughter, Alexandria Faulkenberry.
