ROCK HILL -- Mr. James R. McMullen, 70, of 1122 Green St. Ext., Rock Hill, S.C., died Oct. 14, 2008, at Piedmont Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1938, in Catawba, S.C., to the late A.J. Johnson and Roxanna Barber McMullen. He attended Catawba County Schools. He was a member of Mount Hebron Baptist Church. He sang with the Mount Hebron Men's Choir and was vice president of the Pilgrim Five and manager of the Gospel Persuaders.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Carrie Kirk McMullen of Rock Hill; three sons, James Robert McMullen Jr. (Valerie), Tyrone McMullen and Kenneth McMullen, all of Rock Hill; six daughters, Yenetta Gaston (Bobby) of Atlanta, Ga., Doris Heath (Jerome), Tammy McMullen (Kenneth), Jacqueline Massey (John), Shanta Davis (Tim) and Tonya McMullen, all of Rock Hill; three brothers, Alton Johnson, William Massey and Art Reid, all of Rock Hill; six sisters, Elaine Johnson Copeland, Rosemary McMullen, Debra Long (Melvin), Katie McMullen and Tina Jackson, all of Rock Hill and Aaronita Johnson Belton of Catawba, S.C.; six brothers-in-law, Elijah Kirk (Kathaleen), Cleveland Kirk (Ernestine), Jerry Kirk, Richard Kirk, William Kirk and James Kirk (Katie), all of Rock Hill; a sister-in -law, Rose Mary Chamber (Roy); an uncle, Bleese McMullen of Rock Hill; five aunts, Janie Bailey, Jessie Thompson, Louise Bradley, Helen McMullen and Cathrine McMullen, all of Rock Hill; 21 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Shameka McMullen; two brothers, Joe Massey and Joe Willie Jackson; a sister-in-law, Ruth Kirk Wright (Joe); and an uncle, Sammie Lee McMullen.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today, Oct. 17, 2008, at Parker Funeral Home. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Mount Hebron Baptist Church, with the Rev. L.L. Robertson officiating. Burial will be at Catawba Chapel AME Zion Church.
