FORT MILL -- Nyal Virginia Dodge Hughes, 87, of 415 English Ivey Court died peacefully in her home on Sunday morning, Nov. 2, 2008.
Mrs. Hughes, born in Indian River, Mich., was a former resident of Lansing, Mich., where she was employed with the Lansing Public School System at Bingham Elementary and Pattengill Junior High. She retired in 1976 to Englewood, Fla., and then moved to Bartow, Fla., where she loved to play golf. To be closer to her family, she moved to the Charlotte, N.C. area in 1994. She was formerly a member of the Elks Lodge No. 196 in Lansing and was a member of Central Church of God in Charlotte.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Roland Charles Hughes Sr. in 1996. She is survived by her son, Roland Charles Hughes Jr. and wife, Ruth, of Gastonia, N.C.; her daughter, Sharon Dawn Ruehle of Fort Mill, S.C.; her grandchildren, Jeff Hughes of Laingsburg, Mich., Dirck Ruehle and wife, Lisa, of Charlotte, N.C., and Vanessa, Virginia and Caleb Hughes of Gastonia, N.C.; two great-grandchildren, Haley and Hannah Ruehle of Charlotte; and nephew, Joe Hurosky and family of Brunswick, Ohio.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Church of God in Charlotte, N.C.
