ROCK HILL -- Elizabeth (Betty) Wenger Frickhoeffer of 1330 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, S.C., went to join her husband on Nov. 2, 2008. She was born June 2, 1918, in Reading, Pa., the only child of William Roy and Sadie Mowry Wenger. Betty graduated from Wyomissing High School and received a B.S. Degree in Education from Kutztown University where she majored in Library Science. After graduation, she served as head librarian of the Public and Community College in Hershey, Pa.
On July 2, 1940, she married William (Bill) Lee Frickhoeffer of Charlotte, N.C., where they lived for forty-four years. In 1955, she became librarian at Harding High School, where she served until her retirement in 1976. She worked with teacher organizations at the local and state level. Betty was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday school and organized parent teacher meetings. She was also involved in the Women of the Church.
In 1984, Betty and Bill moved to North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and joined Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church. Betty organized the church library and served as librarian for sixteen years. She was an elder in the church and a member of several committees. Her work with the Women of the Church included Circle Bible Moderator and Moderator for the Women of the Church at Ocean Drive. She was awarded an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women of the Presbyterian Church, USA. She completed Bible Study Fellowship International and was one of the organizers of the North Myrtle Beach Christian Women's Club.
Betty and Bill moved to Westminster Towers in Rock Hill, S.C., in February 2002, because of Bill's declining health and to be nearer to the children who live in the area.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Frickhoeffer and her eldest son, William H. Frickhoeffer of Statesville, N.C. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Bob) of Monroe and John (Buddy) and wife, Gwen, of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Joan of Statesville; her grandchildren, John of Statesville, Joel and wife, Sonya, of Apex, Donna Allen and husband, John, of Reno, Nev., David and wife, Carlene, of Reno, Nev., Lisa, Elizabeth and Wendy of Monroe, John (Lee) and wife, Kim, Kimberly of Huntersville and Christopher of Charlotte; eight great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1330 India Hook Road, Rock Hill on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. Betty's ashes will be scattered with her husband's in the Memorial Garden at Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church.
