ROCK HILL -- Mrs. Priscilla Setzer Hutchison, 62, of 1315 Plantation Hills Drive, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 12, 2008, after a period of declining health, surrounded by her husband and her cat, Zsa Zsa.
Pris was born on Aug. 19, 1946, in Concord, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Harry P. and Elsie White Setzer. She was also predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Harry P. and Edith Setzer and her maternal grandparents, Ben H. and Mazzie White. She is survived by her husband, Daren; her sister, Cindy Rufty of Concord; two nieces, Allison Hefner and Lisa Brown and a nephew, Michael Rufty; her aunts, Alene Williams and Doris White and uncle, Glenn White.
Pris grew up in the Winecoff Community of Cabarrus County and graduated from Winecoff High School, Class of 1964. She received her undergraduate degree in social studies and her masters degree in school counseling from Applachian State University.
She worked as a teacher in Mount Pleasant, N.C. for three years and retired after 33 years as an elementary school counselor in South Carolina. She worked at Duncan Elementary School, East Elementary School and Stewart Heights Elementary School. When she retired, she had the longest continuous tenure as an elementary counselor in South Carolina.
She is a past president of the South Carolina School Counselor Association and the South Carolina Career Development Association. She was named Counselor of the Year in 1989. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lumberton, N.C.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church, 102 South Central Ave., Belmont, N.C., with the Rev. Samuel P. Warner officiating.
A memorial service and interment of her ashes will be held at a later date in the Memorial Columbarium of First Presbyterian Church in Lumberton, N.C.
